Apparently Paul Breitenstine was not aboard when the crash of 42-5798 occurred on 30/05/43 because his name is not on the casualty list On the other hand, the remains of Cpl. Julius B. Wilkerson, flight engineer, together with the other ten crewmembers, were recovered at the Guadalupe Mountains, 32 miles SE of Salt Flats, TX. There is a lot of confusion about this B-17F’s serial number on the internet and in the Netherlands ( B-17 crash near Bennekom/Wageningen on July 28, 1943). But the casualty list in this crash seems to confirm the serial number 42-5798.
