This plane crashed on a hill near our village. It glided and didn’t fall apart. We still have some structural members of the wing at home.

My mother’s father was the Radio Operator. Charles Herrlein. Do you mind telling me the name of your village? I am trying to make an estimate of where he bailed out. Do you have and pictures of the wreckage?

Hello Paul, I’m really sorry for not answering your comment, the webpage didn’t send me any notification about it. The topic came to my mind yesterday.
The empty plane landed on a hillside, south from Velem (roughly N47.35, E16.49). It barely reached Hungary. I have a bad quality photo about a the plane in a book about history of the village. The tail marking and tail/serial number is recognizable. I identified the plane based on this information.
Please share your e-mail address, I’ll scan and forward the picture for you. Thank you.
