It was the last B-17 produced at Long Beach, California, and according to it’s production block number was the last B-17 built out of 12,731. It was assigned to Flight A of the 3d Air Rescue Squadron based at Johnson Air Base, near Tokyo after being retrofitted to a SB–17G.
According to Maj. James A. Scheib, USAF (Ret.), in the article ‘Flight to Korea” in the Fall 2004 issue of ‘Air Power History’, it possibly could be credited with flying the first combat mission of the Korean War.

Thank you, Doug.
I always thought the last B-17 ever built was #44-85841 (B-17G-110-VE).

You might be right. 44-83885 was the last B-17 to roll off the Douglas Aircraft production line. And the video that is posted on the page for 44-85841 was the last B-17 that rolled off of the Boeing Seattle production line.

The last plane to roll off of the Seattle line was 43-39508. That is the plane in the video on the 44-85841 page.

I have updated the entries for #5841 & #9508.
Thank you!
