B-17F ‚Lady Stardust‘ – Seriennummer unbekannt Details
B-17F ‚Lady Stardust‘, laut Beschreibung gehört diese B-17 zur 452nd Bomb Group. Aufgenommen wurde das Foto am 29. April 1945
Die Original Bildbschreibung lautet:
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress „Lady Stardust“ at an airbase of the 452nd Bomb Group. England, 29 April 1945.

Auffällig sind die B-17 im Hintergrund, die keinerlei Kennungen der Einheit (z.B. der 452nd Bomb Group) zeigen, weder am Heckleitwerk, noch am Rumpf. Bei einer B-17 ist eine große „3“ am Heck zu ernennen.
Außerdem sind Ende April 1945 sehr viele B-17G auf den Stützpunkte ohne Tarnbemalung vorhanden. Auf diesem Bild ist keine einzig solcher B-17 zu sehen, sondern ausschließlich nur mit Tarnbemalung.
Vielleicht entstand diese Aufnahme am 29 April 1944?

I think it is probably a 728th BS ship (42-31345 Lady Stardust II was of the 728th and usually ships named after other ones were of the same squadron and sometimes would have the same aircraft codes, replacements) and it looks like a B-17F from around mid-1943 with the factory nose gun emplacement but the older cheek windows. I would look for any ships of the squadron that served from mid-1943 to at least April 29, 1944. Good luck!

the unmodified waist hatch and unstaggered position limit
limit the serial number and time frame. The close a/c is a Douglas G series told by the cowl demarcation.
The date is after July, .
1943 however doubtfully April 1945 or even past April, 1944 when the flow of unmarked, camouflaged just about cease.
Lady Stardust is an F BO. I don’t think it has crown windows (deleted with block F-75-BO/.
This could be at a US center or overseas Depot.
iF overseas, it is likely late Summer, 1944
