I believe that this plane was assigned to the 11th Bomber Group, 42nd Bomb Squadron in 1942. Unit history for the 43rd BG only shows the following 4 squadrons:
63d: 1941-1946
64th: 1941-1946
65th: 1941-1946
403d: 1942-1946
Whereas, the 11th Bomber Group, had both 26th and 42nd Bomber Squadrons.
Mission flight records for the 42nd BS in the 11th BG shows this plane in the unit records for the first time on 20 October 1942, „Ship #431“ flown by Lieut. Hensley (who was my great-uncle) which was during the lead up to the Battle for Henderson Field. The last entry for „Ship #431“ on 26 December, 1942 being flown from „Buttons to Cactus“ by Capt. Conradi. Where this plane went after the 26th December, I am not aware of because in early 1943 many of these units transitioned to B-24s.
