42-30174 actually belonged to The Gorgeous Hussey on 26 July 1943 the day it was shot down . My father and all but one crew were captured and taken POW. The cockpit crew crash landed while others including my father “hit the silk” Left waist gunner Allee was KIA. Surviving Enlisted men taken to Stalag 17b, Krems Austria.

Dear Mr Beck, I am investigating the allied air crashes in my district of Osterholz in Germany. In the distant future I would like to write down the results and thereby keep alive the memory of the fallen and survivors of the Second World War. For your information, the crash site of your father is not near Aurich but near Wallhöfen in the district of Osterholz.
Other sources refer to the Boeing B-17 as Lady Luck II. Did I understand you correctly that the nickname was actually Gorgeous Hussey?
Is it possible that you can send me the above photo in a better quality? It’s just to better analyse the picture. I will respect all your rights to the image. In the photo it looks like a cloud of smoke is rising in the background. Her father’s plane is already extinguished at this point. It also looks as if a person is descending to the ground on a parachute. But this could also be an optical illusion. At the very least, it would indicate another crash or an act of combat. On the other hand, the soldiers in the photo look quite ‘relaxed’, which in turn would not indicate another crash.
I am glad that your father survived the crash in my home country and wish you a Merry Christmas.

Hello Olaf, I also live near the crash site. I am currently researching all the crash sites in the district of Osterholz and would be delighted if you could share your knowledge with me. I am particularly interested in the exact location. I can only narrow it down vaguely based on the stories of other contemporary witnesses.
Many greetings and a Merry Christmas.
