Vermutlich wurde Flugzeug und Besatzung mit der anderen B-17 #42-31804 verwechselt. Beide flogen in der Formation nebeneinander und gingen am gleichen Tag verloren. Beide stürzen in der Nähe von Wiener Neustadt ab.

T/Sgt Prescott C Piper was my great uncle. He was the bombardier aboard Pete’s Playhouse and was KIA 10 May 1944. The co-pilot, Manley Dale, survived. You are correct in that there was a mix up of the tail numbers in the MACR from that mission. MACR 4660 is the correct one for this crew.

Hello,
I recently came into possession of a flight cap with the name “Stephen A.M.” on it.
From my searches it may or may not be be Stephan A. Milewski.
According to the American Air museum,
“Stephen Milewski was a Right Waist gunner in the 463rd Bomb Group / 775th Bomb Squadron (15th Air Force), in Italy. He was on board B-17 # 42-31685 on the 10 May 1944 mission to theWiener Neustadt aircraft factory, Austria. Made a Prisoner of War (POW)
– Missing Air Crew Report -MACR 4660. Wounded, Stephen Milewski was captured by the Germans near the crash location of his B-17.
He was brought to an hospital and his wounds were cared for. The MACR mentions that on 25 May 1944 he and Ball Turret gunner Eugene Parker left Luftwaffe Hospital 5/XVII inFelbring (Muthmannsdorf), ±25km NE of Vöstenhof, Austria. Put on a train, they arrived in Vienna and after a long and painful voyage, landed in the
POW camp Stalag Luft 4 in Gross Tychow (Tychowo, Poland). Milewski was liberated during a forced march on
1 or 2 May 1945 by the Russians.”
