The spelling of the Eng/TT is incorrect, last name should read Jarsemsk [my uncle].
Thank you

According to Lino Von Gartzen who specializes in researching crash sites, the official cause of death of Co-Pilot Lt. Cook was drowning. My father never accepted that as the truth. He said that Lt. Cook was a non-swimmer and when shots came from the shore, he did not jump in the water and was shot while still in the raft. I believe the record indicates that he died two days after the ditching. When I spoke with Mr. Von Gartzen, he was living in the Munich area.

My Uncle Joe Jarsemki’s [as well as all other crew] „Individual Casualty Questionaire“ taken after the war states that Lt. Cook was shot in the back with a 30 cal, while in the dingy by ground troops. he was taken to a german garrison where he died the next day, Oct 15th. My uncle was the Eng/TT and spent the remainer of the war as a POW.

Mr. Hood, you are the first relative of the crew I have heard from. I appreciate your confirmation of what my father always stated was the cause of Lt. Cook’s death. My father was sent to Stalag Luft III and later survived the death march which brought him to a camp near Mooseberg. He was liberated by troops serving under General Patton’s forces.
