My grandfather was the navigator on this crew. I have a photo of him and the crew back at base with German loot picked up On the way back to base. Any info on how the crash site was verified?

My dad was the radio man on this plane. Alfred Theobald Jr. The only thing he told me about this crash or of the time he was in the war was that they were shot down and crash landed in occupied France. And how the French people were so helpful to them. I have that same picture that Rich Muckerman has, and only a few others. I don’t think that I could have done what these men did. So heroic!!
