My father was a B-17 pilot with the 306th bomb group bases in Thurleigh. One of his planes must have been named Sweet Sue ( makes sense as my mother’s name was Sue). However, I think it was a B-17F with olive drab camouflage. It may have been a cycle relay p,ane as he flew cycle relay after completing his 35 mission combat tour( he was trying to stay in England near my mother who was a nurse based in Cambridge) Any information on his service or airplanes would be greatly appreciated.

This is an addendum to my previous comment. Dad was in the 368th squadron but may have been transferred to the 369th in July 1944. He passed in 2012 so I cannot ask questions.

Final addendum. My father was 1st Lieutenant William G. Mitchell Jr. I believe he was in the 368th squadron from March 1944 until July 1944. I think he was then transferred to the 369th. He flew a full 35 mission tour. The he flew cycle relay. I would be grateful for any information on Dad’s service or his planes. I am especially interested I. Cycle relay because it seems poorly documented. One of his planes may have been named Sweet Sue ( my mother’s name was Sue.
