Lt Fred McIntyre was promoted to Captain, and was assigned to fly the Barrel House Bessie during his last ten missions. The captain and his entire crew made completed their missions and safely returned home to tell there story. I have
numerous news paper clippings that support this information. It should be noted in the archives that his rank as a b17 pilot was Captain. He rose in rank after he completed his 25 missions. This information was posted in the Reno Nevada Newspaper, where is mother and father lived.

Jeff, can you confirm that Fred is actually in this photos? Asking because I believe my great uncle is in this photo and he never flew with a Fred .

Fred is 3rd from left in the back row.

Thanks! After diving into some research, I was able to confirm my great uncle is in this photo, he is the second guy from the right on the bottom row. Are you able to identify any of the other men? Also are you related to Fred?
27. September 2025 access_time 14:43
No, I’m not related to Fred. I can’t identify anyone else but I recently identified Fred McIntyre in a piece of newsreel.

Ross, got it. Would you be able to send me that newsreel? I’ve been conducting extensive research on the plane and the crew. My email is zildjiandrummer93@yahoo.com. I’ve been able to identify some of the men in the photo. I’d be happy to share any information I have with you about the plane and the crew if interested.

This is the newsreel on Youtube – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7-riy7yl5Q
Fred McIntyre is first seen at 3.53. This was filmed on 16th February 1943 and he had been co-pilot on B-17F 42-5053 ‚Bloody Tangier Show‘.
The audio on the newsreel is wrong so just ignore that.

Thanks! This is really cool to see. How were you able to positively identify Fred?

I have the crew lists for that mission and looked up photos of the men and compared them to the footage.
