My uncle, Everett Austin Holcombe, flew 34 missions as a radio/gunman on Richter’s Wreckers from May to August 1944. When asked about his experiences, all he would tell me was “it was rough.” I’m sure it was rough but I am interested in getting more information on what he and his crew mates actually went through. I would be interested in receiving any additional specific information you can provide me on what those experiences were. You provided photographs of his plane and crew with photos that included my uncle. Thank you.

I have more photos from the crews social life, goofing around and etc. I’m working on getting them scanned and uploaded. I’m the grandson of Victor Fischer. My dad and his sisters heard some stories that I’m working on gathering up. They to said the talk of the war was scarce.

That must be your uncle in the pic how amazing. 34 missions.. that was a tour especially in 44. My dad had his leather flying helmet and he use to say to me “there is a lot of cold sweat in there” I dont know how they did it.

Judy,
I saw your recent email saying your dad was the pilot on Richters Wreckers. I have been trying for years to find specific information on the experiences my uncle, Everett Austin Holcombe, had while serving in the 452nd Bomb Group in WWII. Would it be possible for you to provide me with information relative to your dad’s experiences while serving and the experiences of his crew?

Have you accomplished the scanning and uploading of the photos you mentioned in your posting of last year? If so, how would I access them?
Thanks
