Delivered Long Beach 23/2/43; Patterson 17/4/43; Assigned 509BS/351BG [RQ-P] Polebrook 23/4/43; Missing in Action 19m Leverkusen 1/12/43 with Capt Eugene Harris, Co-pilot: Jim O’Donoghue, Navigator: Tom Briscoe, Bombardier: John McLain, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Chas Tigue, Waist gunner: Harry Mellott,Tail gunner: Mitch Miles (7 Killed in Action), Radio Operator: Orville Click, Ball turret gunner: Ray Smith, Waist gunner: Paul Lucyk (3 Returned to Duty); lost two engines through mechanical problems, but safely ditched Channel, however only three survived when rescue came nearly three days later. Soon it will be 79 since the ditching of the Patty Ann II and the loss of seven brave men. The crew were a team, and they almost made it to the magic mission 25. Thank you, crew of the Patty Ann II, especially Capt. (posthumous) Harris, the pilot. Your granddaughters have your medals. We still have your bars too. RIP.
